Lightsabers were released into Fortnite with a mixed reaction. Here’s when they’ll be removed from the game.
The Fortnite X Star Wars crossover was equally exciting and predictable. Fortnite has become a promotional juggernaut over the past couple of years, partnering with some of the biggest names in entertainment like Marvel and the NFL.
It’s no surprise that Disney wanted to partner with Epic yet again when it came time to promote the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We got a slew of cosmetics, an event, and an in-game scene from the movie.
Fortnite fans have seen a lot of wild events since the rocket launch. This one probably wasn’t as amazing as some of the others, but it certainly seemed to break ground when it came to video game and film partnerships.
Once the viewing party was over, we were given Lightsabers to collect around the Fortnite map. To paraphrase Mitch Hedberg, “People either loved them or hated them… or thought they were okay.”
Most of the loudest voices seemed to be on the fringes of this debate. Some fans loved the ability to block shots and smack an opponent with a Lightsaber while others saw the downside of getting spammed by a team while being sliced with a saber.
Regardless of how you felt about the Lightsabers, they’ll have to leave the game at some point. Fans of the weapon can get their last few rounds and haters can count down the days until they’re gone.
According to data miner @Hypex, the Lightsabers should be out of Fortnite on January 7. Of course, this is subject to change.
Hopefully, the Lightsabers will live on in Creative mode with the Infinity Blade. Unfortunately, since the Avengers weapons are nowhere to be seen, we’ll probably have to wait until another crossover event.
