Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 has been picking up recently. The new snowstorms could point to a season-ending event.

The first couple of months of the new Fortnite chapter were relatively stagnant. Some players got bored of playing the same game over and over again, but Epic was listening to the community with their decisions this season.

Instead of adding a new item each week, Epic focused on improving the core mechanics of the game. They kept the competitive meta steady through the FNCS and Winter Royale – even leaving the Lightsaber out of competitive modes.

Once the competition ended, though, the events were triggered. Winterfest came and started to change the map. We got some unvaulted weapons each day as some old friends came back to the game. Most recently, we saw blizzards begin to take hold across the map.

The community is split on whether or not the snowstorms are a positive change – as is the case with all changes Epic makes to Fortnite. These blinding waves make it impossible to see more than a few feet ahead of your player, which is immersive and a bit annoying at the same time.

The storms start small and get stronger, pushing you to the point where you nearly lose your current location on the map. This new mechanic is a soft nerf for snipers.

The real question is: what is causing these snowstorms? The Ice King was the culprit of the Season 7 snowstorm. Is he back in a different form?

Epic almost always ties map changes into the lore of Fortnite. New frozen areas are popping up across the map, meaning some characters are thriving in this new icy biome.

These blizzards aren’t happening in a vacuum. They point to two possibilities: a season-ending event or the introduction of dynamic weather. Either way, I expect a portion of the map to remain covered in snow when the storms subside.

We’re seeing the beginning of an event, right now. Remember, we have another month+ before Season 1 ends. Epic can do a lot in that time.

What do you think of the Fortnite snowstorms? Are you a fan or do you hope they’ll be leaving soon? Let us know in the comments.
