An Epic Games developer has responded to a critical post on Reddit highlighting the lack of a safety net in Fortnite’s Store with good news for the players.

To many fan’s surprise, Epic Games plans to add an “Undo Purchase” button to the in-game Store and Item Shop in Fortnite.

In the comment, the developer speaks on the design decisions behind preventing and fixing accidental purchases. The full comment is as follows…

We neither want to add friction for players nor do we want to benefit from accidental purchases or players regretting a purchase.

Our initial solution for this was to add a refund token system.

As an ongoing iteration, we are going to introduce an “undo” button to the store page that allows you to easily refund without using up a token within a 5 minute time window, assuming you haven’t started a match since purchase.

PlayStation 4 in Japan is a bit of special case due to X / O button meaning being swapped by default and there also being options to reverse the meanings of the buttons.

Unfortunately for Epic, this comment has been met with a fair bit of criticism. At the time of writing, the comment is heavily downvoted at -125 points.

The backlash is likely due to the lack of a response or clear answer on the reasoning behind the choice to not include a confirmation page prior to the purchase being made.

What are your thoughts on the current plans for alleviating accidental purchases in Fortnite’s Item Shop and Store?

  1. This is really cool, because now I can buy skins and emotes, try them out, and see if I like them or not. And I don’t even need refund tickets for it.

    • what it does is it targets people who just bought a skin, not the people who purchased a skin a month or two months ago and want to be rid of it.

    • My 3 year old is so annoying and just clicks on random ones for my account and our other account. So that’s like 5 refunds used just for silly purchases.

      • My 6 year old nephew got ahold of my account and ended up buying everything on the store, Nothing I could do considering I dont wanna use my last refund ticket after the last incident.

  2. The reason some companies don’t have a “are u sure” button is because if people stop before buying an item.. They have time to think if they really need it, and some might think. Actually I don’t need it… And so companies lose out in potential sales.

But a button with “buy now” and no other options; is a great money making way as people impulse buy and don’t have time to stop and think about their decisions before continuing.

    • A bunch of people (Like me) run into issues with young family members who don’t understand how money works, For example a couple months ago my 6 year old nephew got on my account (Parents needed my help so I went downstairs and my nephew wanted to play so I let him) and bought every item from the store costing about 50$ worth of VBucks, And was only able to save about a quarter of it with my refunds, A(n) undo purchase button would solve this completely

    • I use an elite controller, ive been in situations many times where I accidentally pick up or put down my controller and that one paddle thats mapped to x of course gets bumped or pushed up on by even setting it down in the open case or uneven surfaces. I got an epic emote that I actually liked but thought that they changed it and took out the music. to my surprise after using my first ticket shortly after it was patched in and also seeing that I only get three in a life time _< -_-
