Class-based games are very popular due to their inherent competitive nature and meta structures. This LTM concept would bring a dose of class-based warfare to Fortnite.

Class-based games revolve around a set of ever-expanding characters which have certain abilities unique to their kits. Examples includes Overwatch, Rainbow Six: Siege, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, and many more.

The reason these games are so popular is due to their purposeful asymmetrical balance philosophy. The games champions/operators/classes are directly balanced by making them the same, but rather counter each other to form a ‘meta.’

Fortnite and many other shooters take a different approach. Everyone starts on or around the same level playing field with loot and guns working at the ‘classes.’ Both design philosophies can work equally well.

This LTM concept from Reddit FortniteBR user ‘BillyIsCoolerThanU’ brings a little bit of class-based combat to the shores of Fortnite.

Since everyone else is introducing LTM ideas, I’d thought I’d share mine. CLASS ROYALE! You pick from the default skins, with different statistical advantages and disadvantages. from r/FortNiteBR

While the core gameplay of the Battle Royale experience would remain unchanged, the game would have classes similar to Apex Legends.

Each default would have some advantage and disadvantage. Every player could something they liked from this set. We could even see something like becoming quite popular as a permanent/rotating game mode.

Headhunter works from long range, but sacrifices close ranges accuracy. Renegade is a gun-fighting expert, but struggles when on the move. Banshee plays everything close to the chest, taking more damage, but delivering deadlier shotgun blasts.

Even with these few characters, we already see a meta forming in our heads.

We do think something along these lines will grace Fortnite at some point, but there is one thing we skeptical about. Class-based games get good when the playerbase evolves and constructs team compilations around strategies.

If the Class Royale LTM only stayed for a few days or even a week, the mode would never get the justice of being played enough. Maybe Class Royale could have an extended release period?
