Previous leaks pointed to Epic offering a Fortnite Annual pass for 2020. Epic has issued an official statement on the leak.
As is the case with any game, leaked information doesn’t always come to fruition. Just because something is in the files doesn’t mean it will make its way into the live game.
We’ve seen this with Fortnite a couple of times, but most of the leaks that data miners find in eventually come to the live client. Unfortunately, it looks like the Annual Pass is going to be one of those leaks that ended on the cutting room floor.
The v11.30 patch brought a variety of unreleased cosmetics with it, and fans were eager to find out what would be coming to the Item Shop. Included in those leaks was news of an Annual Pass – something like a season pass from other games. You buy it once and gain access to all of the 2020 Battle Passes, along with a few exclusive skins.
Epic saw the discussion surrounding the Annual Pass and reached out to Fortnite Intel to clear up the rumors. According to their PR statement, the team considered making an Annual Pass for Fortnite but aren’t planning to bring it to the game.
The official statement we received from Epic is as follows: “We’ve seen discussions around a 2020 Annual Pass as a result of data mining the v11.30 build. Occasionally prototype features make it into our build that end up not being released. While the 2020 Annual Pass was considered, we have no plans to release it…unlike the Bao Bros.”
While unfortunate, there is a silver lining, here. THE BAO BROS ARE COMING.
The Boa Bros have been one of the mythical skin sets in Fortnite. Data miners found it in the game files almost a year ago but it never came to the Item Shop.
Whether you’re a fan of these skins or not, they’re going to become a must-have item when they finally make it into the game. Let’s hope that Epic gives us a little Christmas present and releases them in time for the holidays.
