New items arrive pretty much every single patch now for Fortnite and v8.20 will be no different. The Poison Trap looks to be added to the game in tomorrow’s patch according to the in-game newsfeed.
The in-game newsfeed for Fortnite has been updated to show off a new item coming to the world. The Poison Trap is its name and it has the look of the Aztec styling of the areas surrounding the Volcano.
The description for the new item reads: “It’s a Poison Trap! Watch your step lest you trigger a trap!”
A cute little warning for those getting near one of these new additions.
The trap was leaked in v8.10 by data-miners, but was never released. The in-game newsfeed switch confirms the launch of the item.
Some in-game newsfeed have revealed the item to be coming in the next patch tomorrow. Not all versions have gotten the news update yet, but you should see it soon enough.
The new trap seems to include little holes which launch darts/arrows at people getting too close. We suspect that the darts will apply some sort of damage over time effect similar to the ticking damage of the Stink Bombs.
However, damage from the trap may or may not be able to be removed once applied. Naturally, healing will stem the tide of the damage.
At this time, we do not have concrete details on how the trap will work and all of the above is merely speculation. Epic sure does love to surprise us all with interesting new mechanics, so be prepared for anything.
Patch v8.20 will released tomorrow with downtime beginning at 5AM EST. The patch contents are not yet completely known, but we do know that a new ‘always-on’ permanent ranked ‘Arena Mode’ will arrive at some point during v8.20 as part of the Fortnite World Cup.
