Popular streamer Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins and Nick ‘NICKMERCS’ Kolcheff have discussed why Fortnite is much harder to play that it used to be.
The pair are well known amongst the Fortnite community for their high level plays and incredible skill, with Ninja recently taking part in the North American finals of the Winter Royale tournament.
While NICKMERCS failed to qualify for the Winter Royale, he is largely recognized as one of the best players in the world at using a controller, regularly achieving high finishes in esports competitions even though he is at a disadvantage against opponents using a mouse and keyboard.
However, both Blevins and Kolcheff have admitted that it’s become much harder to pick up wins on Fortnite, due to the massive improvements made by the average Fortnite fan who plays the game.
When Ninja was asked if he ever plays as a solo competitor in a squad game anymore, the Twitch superstar responded; “Not nearly as much. Players have gotten so much better. It’s hard, I’m not trying to get clapped by four try-hards.
“There’s always going to be that incredible shooter or building, but for me – and that’s why I’ve always loved battle royales – you can not be as talented at shooting or building as someone else, but if you make the right decisions and rotate, you can be one of the best players in the game.”
100 Thieves streamer NICKMERCS shared the same sentiment as Ninja, telling his stream: “Everybody’s skill level is getting better, everyone is getting better at the game. It happens with every shooter, everybody who can get good quick does so, but then the rest of the population gets better and better.
“The average Fortnite player is way better than they used to be. There was a time when 99% of Fortnite players didn’t even build. I just think the games getting more difficult.”
“I used to be able to get 20 kill wins every stream. But now, getting a 20 kill win is YouTube worthy, that’s big. I remember I used to get 20 kill wins and I wouldn’t even upload them. Now if you get a win like that and don’t upload it, you’re crazy, it doesn’t happen as much,” concluded Kolcheff.
