Could the ‘Share the Love’ series be a sign ranked play is coming?
Fortnite’s upcoming ‘Share the Love’ competitive series will give players a taste of what to expect with a ranked mode in Fortnite.
The series kicks off during the weekend of February 9 and 10 for placement matches.
Top performers will be placed into higher divisions based on how they do in the games.
What we don’t know is how Fortnite will judge performance and whether that’s just based on victories or if it will count eliminations as well.
Whatever that method may be, the top performers will be split into four separate divisions:
- Open Division
- Prospect Division
- Contender Division
- Champion Division
Players can move up a division by earning a pin during the daily sessions the tournament will be holding.
All of this sounds like the makings of a ranked mode.
Fortnite, as most will probably know by this point, does not have a ranked mode which can make things very difficult for new players.
We’re now well into Season 7 of Fortnite, meaning there’s a high number of players who have been playing for several seasons now.
These are the players who know how to build and do what it takes to win, which is pretty discouraging to brand new players.
There are arguments for and against the addition of a ranked mode in Fortnite but it’s hard to argue how it wouldn’t be beneficial to newer players.
It doesn’t seem too far out of the realm of possibilities that this competition is a test for the ranked mode.
With increased competition from games such as Apex Legends and the possibility of it getting a ranked mode out before Fortnite, it appears the pressure is on.
