Aqua won the Fortnite World Cup Duos Finals with his partner, Nyhrox, but has decided to part company with the player after earning $1,500,000.
We’re not gonna lie…this story’s a peculiar one to say the least. Aquaa and Nyhrox won the FWC Duos Finals and both earned $1,500,000 dollars for the feat. Now, Aqua has decided to switch duo partners after the incredible victory.
The professional Fortnite player posted a short explanation about his decision on August 2. While behind the scenes drama could account for the departure, his publicly stated reasons seem a little odd so quickly after winning.
Aquaa & Nyhrox split up after World Cup victory
The Fortnite World Cup ended less than a week ago on July 28 and became the most viewed esports event of all time. At the event, Aquaa and Nyhrox took home the Duo Finals trophies, but they’ve already decided to split up.
In an attempt to explain the decision, Aquaa posted a Twitlonger message about the situation.
Aquaa is very clear in pushing the point that him & Nyhrox still remain friends. We don’t doubt that and would find it surprising if they weren’t after winning millions playing Fortnite. There’s no issue there, but his stated reason for splitting the world’s foremost duo doesn’t land quite so firmly.
The Fortnite World Cup Finals were the pinnacle of Fortnite competition and those who won that event are now the best players in the world. That’s the whole point of playing these tourneys, to find out who the true best of the best are.
However, Aquaa doesn’t see it that way. He believes that him & Nyhrox are not the greatest duo in the world. While we understand the drive to get even better, it’s a massive risk to part from Nyhrox. Stompy is no slouch himself and qualified for the finals, but he’s most certainly not of the same caliber as Nyhrox at the moment.
With this said, we don’t want to be too harsh as there might an aspect that Aquaa didn’t specify, but meant to. Fortnite changes radically with every new season and that means different types of players will thrive in the coming tournaments. Aquaa may be seeing the future as grim with a player like Nyhrox, who loves taking high ground, as Season X introduced the B.R.U.T.E., removed Shadow Bombs, and vaulted Glider Redeploys.
For the time being, the decision seems a little hasty and you would’ve like to have seen the player spend more time playing the new season with Nyhrox before the split. Of course, behind the scenes ‘stuff’ might have played a major role.
What do you think of this duo split-up between Nyhrox and Aquaa? It’s certainly sad to see the most formidable partners of the FWC Duos Finals split up, but we wish the best to them both going into the next era of competitive Fortnite.
