Fortnite Battle Royale has won the Ultimate Game of the Year award at GamesRadar’s Golden Joysticks!

In a rather surprising victory, Fortnite Battle Royale has beaten out Red Dead Redemption and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 at the Golden Joystick awards.

This announcement shocked some who felt that story-based games such as Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemptio and Santa Monica Studios’ God of War were better deserved winners. Despite this, it’s a very impressive accomplishment for the team at Epic Games.

An emotional Epic Games representative dressed as Fortnite’s Cuddle Team Leader skin took the stage to thank everyone for their support…

Wow- Excuse me for a minute… It’s truly an honor on behalf of the team. Among such an amazing group of peers, and a bunch of games that I’m still working through on my list to be honest; it’s incredible. Thank you to all the players and especially thank you to the bus driver. Cheers!

Alongside the winning Ultimate Game of the Year, Fortnite won the Best Competitive Game award. Best Competitive Game is a new category that celebrates multiplayer competition of all kinds.

The aforementioned Epic Games representative took the stage to give the studio’s appreciation for the award and support.

On behalf of the entire studio, the entire office, every single one us at Epic [Games] thank you so much to the player that play every day, and voted for us. It’s an honor, thank you!
