Fortnite may be the juggernaut in gaming today but it still fell victim to a post-holiday slump with its revenue.
In the month of February, Fortnite celebrated two gigantic milestones.
It posted its best day in terms of players outside of an event ever and also broke records with its virtual Marshmello concert.
Despite this, Fortnite saw its revenue fall 48 percent from December 2018 to January 2019.
This could easily be chalked up to December being its peak month and the post-holiday hangover causing the drop.
The information comes from a report by SuperData and here’s what it says about Fortnite.
“Fortnite dips month-over-month after a strong end to the year. Fortnite revenue on all platforms combined declined 48% month-over-month in January, although sales are still up significantly year-over-year. This comes after a peak month in December and points to an increasingly lumpy revenue profile heading into 2019.”
SuperData does mention Fortnite revenue is still up significantly year-over-year so Fortnite certainly isn’t in danger of dying any time soon.
Recent competition from Apex Legends has brought several Twitch streamers to the game and while that may have hurt Fortnite, Season 8 is beginning in just a few days which will certainly bring players back.
