The Chinese government has reportedly banned a number of high-profile games across the country.

In order to determine if a collection of online games adhere to the country’s guidelines, the Chinese government formed the ‘Online Ethics Review Committee’ in early December.

Various games then went under review by the Committee to decide whether they are required to make changes to meet guidelines, or if they will be outright banned.

Following the review, it was concluded that Fortnite will be prohibited due to ‘blood and gore,’ and ‘vulgar content.’

The news came via NGA, a Chinese gaming forum, and was eventually translated and posted to Reddit.

Some community members are puzzled by the reasoning behind the ban, due to the fact that Fortnite is widely known for its cartoon-like style.

Other Battle Royale titles such as H1Z1, PUBG, and Ring of Elysium have also been prohibited by the Chinese government.

A full list of all the games that have been reportedly reviewed by the Chinese government can be viewed below.

It should be noted that the full list of games and rulings has not been confirmed by the Chinese government or the various game developers at the time of writing.

Tencent, the largest game publisher in the world, brought Fortnite to China earlier in 2018 with a price tag of $15 million. In the wake of the reported ban, Tencent has yet to comment.

We will continue to update this story as more information is made available.
