Epic Games’ annoucement that there will be literal bots in Fortnite has prompted some differing opinions from the battle royale community.
On September 23, the Fortnite developers gave an update on the future of the game’s matchmaking system by revealing that bots will be added in the near future. No, that doesn’t mean a practice mode or something similar, but these bots will fill multiplayer lobbies.
They won’t stay the same forever, though, as Epic confirmed that they will be able to learn tendencies and play styles in order to become more challenging in-game.
Of course, that has prompted some reactions from some of the game’s most popular players and creators – with some seeing it as a pretty positive move, while others couldn’t help but bring out the comedy.
One of the first reactions came from Team Liquid’s Chap, who tweeted that adding bots would be a positive move.
“Adding bots will allow new players to actually learn the game,” he tweeted, with a thumbs-up emoji attached.
Another pro player, Tommo, chimed in on the changes – noting that it could very well be a positive move as it’ll stop Epic adding things like the BRUTE Mech’s to balance games.
“To be honest it might be good a change, bad players will do well so they won’t complain about the game and then epic won’t release dumb items with no skill to help them?” the free agent tweeted.
Some players, like SoaR Gaming’s Upshall didn’t see it as a wholly positive though, noting that it may make games more difficult to find for certain players.
They posted: “PLEASE DON’T DO THIS, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO PLAY THIS GAME IN THE MORNING. IT’S ALREADY HARD ENOUGH TO FIND GAMES.”
Yet, while some held serious opinions – both positive and negative – popular Twitch streamer Ben ‘DrLupo’ Lupo brought jokes to the table.
Just how much these bots change the battle royale title remains to be seen and their true impact won’t be known until lobbies are full of them.
Only then will players be able to pass a proper judgment.
