Siphon was introduced in v7.40 and was a mechanic which encouraged an aggressive and exciting play style. Below you can find the full comment from the Epic Engineer regarding the blog post…
There is going to be a blog post covering topics such as FOV, siphon, and game evolution tomorrow probably early afternoon ET.
In hindsight I should have set proper expectation and said “late next week” instead of “next week”, sorry.
In the v8.20 patch notes, Epic Games had this to say regarding the Siphon mechanic:
In v7.40 we implemented a few Pop-up Cup settings as a test in core modes. After monitoring a combination of gameplay, data, and feedback, we’ve gathered necessary info to conclude this initial test. We feel it has resulted in an unhealthy level of aggressive play, diminishing other viable strategies.
Since then, players have spammed all Fortnite-related social media accounts with the word “Revert” as as why to show their frustration with these changes.
One month has passed since these changes were made. Since then, many more issues have risen such as the lack of a field of view slider in Fortnite, and the banning of stretched resolutions.
Thankfully, Epic seems to be gearing up to address these topics, including their thought process behind the evolution of Fortnite. Stay tuned!
