Could Fortnite Vending machines make a return? This clip suggests they could be in the works for Fortnite Chapter 2.
Vending Machines had an interesting run in Fortnite Battle Royale. They were useless when they first came out due to the high purchase cost but later became God-tier when Epic revamped them. When they were in their final form, Vending Machines offered free Purple or Gold weapons to at least one person in your party.
In Chapter 2, it seems like the Upgrade Benches took the position of the original Vending Machines. You pay materials to upgrade your weapon – similar to how the Vending Machines let you buy guns for materials.
What if we could have both Vending Machines and Upgrade Benches? Vending Machines were free by the end of Chapter 1, so there’s a place for both features in the game.
Vending Machines helped limit RNG, just as Upgrade Stations do. Epic could limit RNG even more if Vending Machines had a 100% spawn rate like chests do in Chapter 2.

One clip posted to the r/FortniteBR subreddit suggests that Vending Machines may make a return. One Xbox player experiences the annoyingly frequent bug that keeps structures from rendering at the beginning of the game. On his screen, you can briefly see a Vending Machine load-in then disappear. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it.
This is far from confirmation that Vending Machines will be coming to Fortnite Chapter 2 in the near future, but it shows us something. Epic is considering adding Vending Machines and they know where they’d place them if they returned.

Any item or feature that limits RNG is positive for all Fortnite players. I’m hoping, at least, that Epic brings these back to Fortnite sooner rather than later.
